The situation
In Buenaventura the damage is concentrated in the rural area, where homes are built of timber and on stilts and did not survive the quake. These are riverside communities reached by boat rather than by road, so every delivery depends on a vessel and on the weather.
Fundación Afro Mandela and Club Deportivo Diamantes del Pacífico are collecting donations for the municipality and for the department of Chocó, the two hardest-hit areas on the Pacific coast. Their drop-off point is in Cali, at Calle 26 L #44-50, Nueva Floresta.
They insist on something this campaign shares: that the aid reaches the people who actually need it. An emergency also draws those who take advantage, which is why every delivery is coordinated with people who know the territory.
