The situation
Corporación Emergencias Apolo goes into the impact zones in Cali to do what almost nobody does in the first days: sit with people who have just lost everything. They work with children and with adults, in partnership with Psicología Sin Fronteras Colombia.
The work is physical before it is therapeutic. Reaching people means entering unstable structures and rubble, and that takes protective gear. Theirs is wearing out, and without helmets and knee pads going in stops being safe.
The other half of what they need is simpler and just as concrete: the material the workshops run on. Paper, colored pencils, crayons and toys are the tools a child uses to start talking about what happened.
